SHAMBO MEDINA

I am a visual artist, poet, musician & breath-work practitioner.

I have spent the past 15 years of my life engaging spiritual healing technologies, building community & creating a body of visual and sonic works of art rooted in an ongoing & ever-evolving contemplation of the lives and humanity of Africans across space and time.

The spirit of my work is deeply informed by the Sankofa journey of connecting to the past with the intent to recover memory & lost presence, to engage in deeper knowing, and to instigate spiritual transformation.

ART

Visual Arts

As a student of living, healing & Africana, I explore current & historical events, conversations in the community, dreams, memories & downloads while walking around town (& in nature ) for themes to address in my work.

Each piece I create is an outer manifestation of a process of deep listening in solitude & in community, asking the Spirit to open my eyes & expand my understanding as I commit to listen & feel long enough to bring forth art that means something.

Prevalent themes thus far in my work include African spirituality, black love & liberation, socio-political activism & healing from the emotional & psychological wounds of the global euro-colonial project.

Rebirthing & Breathwork

Rebirthing breath-work is a transformative spiritual healing technology, engaging a rhythmic circular breathing technique (known as conscious connected breathing) as a vehicle for increased vibration, emotional release & deeper attunement to one’s own innate wisdom & soul memory.

With this technique, we breathe repetitiously into our core (the headquarters of our intuition) with no pause between our inhale & exhale for an extended period. A rebirthing breath-work session is conducted with a trained facilitator & can last up to 90 minutes.
